OUR AIMS:

  • To identify and perpetuate the memory of the soldiers, sailors, airmen and others who made the ultimate sacrifice,  from Henley and the surrounding villages,  who died in or as a direct result of World War 1.

  • To research each one as an individual – “some mother’s son” – the part they played in the Community and the gaps they left.

  • To create a lasting record of their identity and sacrifice.

  • To remember the First World War in the context of the Town and surrounding community, and put in place information sources to endure for future generations.

  • To establish fitting permanent remembrance to mark  the 100th anniversary of this brutal worldwide conflict and how it affected the people of a Thames-side Market Town in Oxfordshire 100 years ago.

  • To make available in an enduring form, information that has relevance for all ages.
